Blogging... Hmmm, this should be interesting

This whole blogging thing is new to me but I'll give it a try. I have been keeping up with several of my friends' blogs and decided to start one for my family. So, here goes...

Matt and I have been married now for 10 months and have had a great time getting to know each other on a different level. We didn't live together before getting married so it's been interesting! For example, I've learned not to fuss at him when he leaves his shoes in front of the door for people to trip over and he tries to not get aggravated with me when I don't unpack my suitcase until a week after returning from a trip. We are complete opposites but compliment each other well and have learned to accept each other's annoying habits and the flaws still to be discovered. Matt is a great cook and he is very kind as I attempt to learn the trade. When I screw up a recipe he's so sweet and pretends like it's the best thing he's ever eaten. I'm the OCD and opinionated one and he is so laid back and patient with me. Some days I don't know how he puts up with me. We are far from perfect and argue on occasion, but overall we make a great team.

We have 5 pets that are like children to us. All but one of them are strays that we have taken into our home as puppies and kittens. Our oldest dog Brady is having a tough time right now. We just found out 2 weeks ago that she has heartworms pretty badly. She just started her injections to kill them and has a 50/50 chance of surviving this. Please keep her in your prayers. Our other dog Sophie is a healthy and hyper lab, she spends most of her days digging endless holes to China in our backyard. Jewels is our oldest cat, I got her as a birthday present several years before I met Matt. She is bipolar and my friends refer to her as the "Demon Cat." She has a sweet side but only lets a few of us see it :-) We got our cat Snickers when she wandered into my mom's yard as a kitten. She is our sweet cat that tries to mind her own business despite the chaos. The youngest and newest edition to our household is Link. We agreed after Snickers that we were drawing the line at 4 pets until Link came along... Our dogs were barking like crazy at something that was just outside of the fenced part of the yard. Matt investigated and it was a baby kitten far too young to be without its mommy. We decided to nurse him to health then find him a good home. That idea was great in theory until we fell in love with him. And of course Matt (being surrounded by 5 girls) was thrilled to have some more testosterone in the house! So, the line has now been drawn at 5 pets! If we have anymore we won't ever have room (or money!) for a kid one day!

Matt and I are working on our careers right now. I am a pediatric and adult ICU nurse at hospitals in Mobile and Gulfport. I have done a little bit of travel nursing in the past but am enjoying "honeymooning" too much right now to leave again. Matt is a department manager at Lowes and is preparing for another promotion in the near future. I'm starting USA's masters program this fall to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Once I've finished school, Matt and I are going to start trying to start a family (unless God makes things happen differently!). We are about to enter a fun chapter in our life- we will soon be first-time homeowners! We made an offer on a pre-foreclosure home and, after many weeks of waiting and praying, we finally found out today that the bank accepted our offer! We close sometime in August and are looking forward to having our own home.

In conclusion to this novel I have written (I promise future updates won't be this long!), Matt and I are truly blessed. We have great friends and family supporting us in all our endeavors and a great outlook on our future together. Life is good...
